Breakin was inspired by a 1983 documentary titled Breakin’ ‘n’ Enterin’, set in the multi-racial hip hop club Radio-Tron, based out of MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.

Many of the Artists & dancers from Breakin N Enterin went on to star in Breakin 1984 including Ice-T & The Glove (who makes his film debut as a club MC), and Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers and The late Adolfo Shabba Doo Quin̈ones (Madonna,Lionel Richie, Mj)from The legendary Original Lockers(Toni Basil).
Lucinda Dickey play’s Kelly who plays a struggling Jazz Ballad dancer that does her best to learn The Street moves from the guys that actually come from the L.A Hip Hop and dance community.
We even see Jean-Claude Van Damme dancing in the background as an extra.

The film’s soundtrack is full of 1984 Electro Funk Soul & Boogie gold which featured the hits “Ain’t Nobody” Chaka Khan & Rufus”Breakin’… There’s No Stopping Us” by Ollie & Jerry, “Freakshow on the Dance Floor” by The Bar-Kays and the UK Top 20 hit “Body Work” by Hot Streak Ice-T & The Glove Reckless to name a few.
It’s not so much about the great acting but more so about the music and era.
Sit back and enjoy the ride back to 1984.
