When Marti DeBergi set out in 1984 to capture “the sights, the sounds, and the smells” of legendary British rock band Spinal Tap, what he ended up with was something quite unexpected: nothing short of the quintessential roc doc—shocking, wild, funny, and totally staged.

A spoof about a filmmaker (played by Reiner himself) making a documentary about a once-famous, now almost forgotten British heavy metal band returning to the United States after 17 years for a concert tour. Comedy and chaos follow, turned up to 11.
