Get out of the lounge room and into the cinema for the ultimate Saturday morning Rage Esque session where we consider the music clip as a super influential cultural narrative.

Curated by some of Naarm’s most celebrated musicians and film buffs, this in-cinema experience features curated music videos on the big screen, and a Q and A exploring the transition of song into visual narrative. Panelists will reflect on their relationships with the moving images produced to promote music in the age of the video clip, extending from Countdown, MTV, and Rage, to the era of streaming platforms, algorithms and beyond. We’ll jump around the cinematic notion of the female gaze, and consider the in-betweens of gender performance, creative practice and cultural representation.

Leading Naarm contemporary feminist music collective Sonic aGender presents the inaugural Sonic aGender Film Festival 2023, exploring music, gender and the moving image. SAFF23 considers music and film culture through a collage of music video clip curation and commentary, commissioned live music performance, feature documentary and sick afterparty vibes.
