Party Girl (1995) presented by See Also

Mary is a spiritual descendant of Holly Golightly, and there's an echo, as well, of Edie Sedgwick, the late Andy Warhol superstar who moved the American-princess-on-a-bender mythology into the drug-rock era. ” Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

Parker Posey stars as Mary, the ultimate downtown New York diva, an It Girl who rules the underground scene in an array of impossibly hip outfits. When she’s thrown in the clink for promoting an illegal party, her godmother Judy (Sasha von Scherler) reluctantly bails her out. To pay her back, Mary starts working at the New York Public Library Judy manages, much to the chagrin of her new co–workers. With a new, somewhat blazed appreciation of the Dewey Decimal System and a flourishing romance with Mustafa (Omar Townsend), a Lebanese street vendor and aspiring educator, it seems like Mary’s life is turning around – until she’s forced back to her old stomping ground just to pay the rent.

Directed by Daisy von Scherler Meyer, Party Girl has become a cult classic with its outrageous performance by Posey, an incredible mid-90s club soundtrack, and some truly fabulous fashion. The cast includes: Liev Schreiber, Guillermo Diaz, Donna Mitchell, Becky Mode and John Vertimiglia; with cameos from Lady Bunny and more. This film has been impossible to screen in Australia – come celebrate with us, like, he-he-hello?!
