Out Of The Blue

I’ve never endorsed anything. Even of my own. But if a masterpiece comes along, people should see it. People that love movies would really like to see this one. ” Jack Nicholson on Out Of The Blue

Main Title Theme X TPH Present Dennis Hopper’s 1980 directorial masterpiece.
The long-awaited 4k restoration, presented in Melbourne for the very first time, exclusively at
Thornbury Picture House.
A rarely seen but hugely influential drama – Out Of The Blue depicts the dark fall out of the
liberated sixties and how its failings lead to punk. A spiritual sequel to Easy Rider, the film
centres around young Cebe, played by the late Linda Manz (Days of Heaven, Gummo), in
one of the great teenage performances of the era.

Considered by many to be his best work behind the camera – Hopper was originally just a
cast member before taking over directing duties half way through the film’s production,
completely re-writing it after hearing Neil Young’s “Hey Hey My My” on the way to set –
Hopper said to himself “that’s the film! Thanks Neil!”.
It’s not a dream, it’s a movie.

“The world at large doesn’t always make sense to me, and there are safe havens. Linda
Manz in Out of the Blue is one of them.” – Natasha Lyonne.

TW: This film contains themes of sexual assault and family violence.

Main Title Theme is an irregular night of considered film programming plus live music at the Thornbury Picture House. Stay tuned.
