The Melbourne Short Film Festival 2025 kicks off with a program of 5 short films of various genres that unravel bizarre fiction and real stories. The captivating documentary ‘Tonnage’ (Yorgos Kyvernitis) narrates the Eleusis’ dockworkers’ daily life activities, David Rendall’s drama ‘Triage’ talks about the pandemic through the stresses and challenges upon relationships while Will McLennan’s comedy ‘The Offering’ is about the difficulties of job hunting.
In the second program, experimental, animated films, dramas and comedies blend sparking different feelings and touching upon various themes. Polly Huang’s graduate film ‘Monster Save Me’ is about the complexity of trust and communication between both people and animals, the experimental comedy ‘Can Somebody Tell Me That Everything Will Be Fine’ (Siri Bråtveit) comments on the idiosyncratic quality of online anonymity using real dialogues from Norway’s largest chat forum while Jurian Joseph Gravett’s ‘Ella Ella’ is a dreamy tale of real love and the bittersweet reality.
