An imposing black structure provides a connection between the past and the future in this enigmatic adaptation of a short story by revered sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke. When Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) and other astronauts are sent on a mysterious mission, their ship’s computer system, HAL, begins to display increasingly strange behaviour, leading up to a tense showdown between man and machine that results in a mind-bending trek through space and time.
2001’s themes of existentialism, human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence and extraterrestrial life have both compelled and confounded audiences for years, with the film’s meaning still debated over to this day.

However there is absolute no debate about the fact that this is a truly breathtaking piece of cinema, with it’s pioneering special effects, ambiguous imagery, and uses of sound and music making it a film you simply must-see on the big screen.
